History

The Green Expo began in February 2004 when former organizer Laurie Collette created a mini-exhibit showcasing local sustainable companies, including a straw bale construction company her husband worked for. The goal was to keep him closer to home and his one-year-old daughter.

The first Expo featured 22 local businesses and was held in the Peterborough Lions Club building, a space that Laurie quickly realized wouldn’t be suitable for future Expos due to the overwhelming interest from the community.  As a result of this expanding support, the show moved to the Evinrude Centre, where it has been held ever since.

The Expo has seen steady growth since 2004, as increasing numbers from the Peterborough and surrounding areas come to learn about the latest in eco-friendly products and services. The 2008 Expo featured CBC News anchor and reporter Wendy Mesley, who spoke to a packed house about consumer issues.

In early 2010 Laurie announced that she was looking for a new challenge and wanted to pass the Green Expo on to a person or organization in the community who would continue bringing the best in eco-friendly products and services to consumers–Peterborough Green-Up was the obvious choice.

With 20 years of service to the greater Peterborough area, Green-Up is excited to take on the challenge of the Green Expo and looks forward to making 2012 the best Expo to date. We’re bringing in new sponsors, new exhibitors, a widely known and recognized keynote speaker and ensuring the Green Expo follows Green-Up’s mission statement of enhancing environmental health in the Peterborough region. We look forward to seeing you at our new venue, Lansdowne Place mall.
